Jutia, also known as eku, is one of the preferred foods of eleggua, used much in various types of rituals, ceremonies, and offerings for the Orishas. Originally the rat used for these rituals was only found in certain parts of Africa, known as Okete. That animal was replaced by the jutia that is only found in Cuba and certain parts of the Caribbean.
